2. Wind the tag end around the standing part of the line with the thumb
and forefinger of your dominant hand. Once you tie this many times,
you’ll develop muscle memory. On a standard knot, make five
complete turns with the tag end. With lighter leaders, you can make
seven or eight turns. Using heavier-test shock tippets, only use three
turns, otherwise you’ll have difficulty getting the loops to set properly;
three turns is enough.
3. Thread the tag end through the loop in front of the hook eye. Use
saliva to lubricate the knot as you tighten it. Clip the excess tag end.
