Homer Rhode Loop Knot

This is an excellent utilitarian loop knot for when you want to impart more
action to a lure or a fly. The man for whom the knot is named, Homer
Rhode Jr., was a fly-rod pioneer in South Florida and the Everglades in
the mid-twentieth century. He originated the Homer Rhode Jr. Tarpon
Streamer (similar in design to the tarpon Seaducer popularized by Chico
Fernandez) and the Homer Rhode Jr. Tarpon Bucktail, which were both
featured in Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing by Joseph D. Bates Jr.
Rhodes wrote to Bates, and is quoted in the book, “You’ll note that all of

my neck hackle and saddle hackle flies are tied with very heavy collars.”
He also wrote: “When I dress flies on offset hooks I removed about 90
percent of the offset, which seems to give the best results in hooking and
holding fish.” A little classic fishing tip from an early saltwater master.
