a thick white layer. He breathes in the fresh evening air deep into his lungs and

strolls out through the garden aisle.

                                                           ***

                   The jewellery box

As soon as he gets the engine running, he starts his trip back towards

Copenhagen; his mind is spinning. Why would the founder of Kräsen, Walther
Stormann, make such a strange pact with Thule Enterprise? What was the pact

good for? The letter almost sounded like a warning. It frustrates him that he is

unable return to the Munich State Archives in good time. He needs more time.
Before he was studying the information behind the company Kräsen, such as the

figures and history, he would rather study the circle of people around Walther

Stormann. He makes sharp turn down Jægersborg Allé, past the memorial plaque
for the two great Danish resistance fighters during the German occupation,

"Flammen" and "Citronen". At the junction in Lyngby, he put his blinkers on,
turning left and swings into merging tracks. He pushes down the pedal and the

car gasses up like a beast beneath him. He can really feel the 572 horsepower

under the bonnet of the car, as it roars out - forward, forward. His plan is actually
to spend evening at home in the one-floor villa in Virum, having some time to

unwind. He needs an evening of commonality, as far from drama as possible -

turn on the old wood stove, clear snow from the front and the tiled garden, put
an old jazz vinyl record on his new gramophone, a good glass of red wine while

roasting a couple of steaks from the local butcher, cook a good handful of

potatoes, and finally bury himself deep in his old chesterfield couch in front of
the stove. He has just recently purchased two new archaeology books:

"The mind in the cave" and "Nuramiut Eskimos". He could make some tea.

But instead, he's heading back to the office. The jewellery box must nevertheless
be hidden away inside a safety box - it must be kept safe. Tom’s adrenaline

pumps through his system; all this new information giving to him today is a lot to
digest. The Audi thunders through the roads, even though the snowfall has
