And yet, in Naja’s soft gurgles, in the way her tiny fingers curled around Phoebe’s hand, he
wondered if there might still be time—time to mend, to grow, to become the father Phoebe
               had always needed.

“Remember to keep a close eye on Naja on the boat,” Victoria said.

Edward is 187 cm tall, slim without being thin. He is quite ordinarily built, not the muscular
type, rather he looks, if you didn't know, an artist type. Today, he is wearing a white shirt
with a china collar, loosely hanging over his trousers, which are wide, khaki with wide legs.
On his feet, he wears navy blue rubber shoes without laces. His hair is steel-grey, semi-
long, with a middle parting, where the two bangs on either side of the parting dance around
the top half of his face continuously, so he often has to let a hand slide up to his forehead
to keep the locks in place. With his 44 years, two large, good-natured, intelligent eyes, a

pointed nose which, despite his seemingly bohemian appearance, gives him a firmness of
character, and when you also hear his authoritative voice with a language full of numbers
and technicalities, in interaction with his relatively narrow lips and broad chin, you become
aware that he is a man, who do not belong to the creative class. His gaze rests lovingly
Victoria. They are a tight-knit unit, they have always agreed on almost everything. They have
had it easy, almost like a dream. He has always supported her in the things she wanted to
do, and she has always supported him, despite the fact that much of what he does
requires working late into the evening and also on weekends. Smiles broadly. If there is

something that can bring out Edward's mood, it is family days on the boat, whether they
are sailing or just lying in the harbor. "And every time she’s on deck, she must hold
               someone’s hand,” Victoria said firmly.

Phoebe, much like Edward, was the fresh, always optimistic type.

“Well, not Naja,” Phoebe replied with a reassuring smile. “We’re always careful when
we’re on Grandma and Grandpa’s boat.”

“Yes,” Victoria added, crossing her arms. “She just needs to hold an adult’s hand
whenever she’s on deck. The boat isn’t very big, as you can see, and the railing is quite low.

It’s only designed for two people.”

Victoria stood by, observing the activity at the harbor. She enjoyed being there and even
found the occasional small fishing trips on the boat enjoyable. Still, she wasn’t exactly the
seaworthy type. She had voiced concerns about Phoebe—pregnant with her second
child—joining them on the sailing trip. However, both Phoebe and Edward, along with their
