With a solid pull, they begin to haul him toward the side of their boat. For a moment, he’s
lifted out of the water, gasping for air, but then he remembers—**Naja! Elvira!** He twists
and looks back at the chaotic scene unfolding around him. Desperation surges once more.
“Where are they?!” he cries out, panic sharpening his voice.
The man steadies him with a grip. “Hold on, we’ll get you safe first!” The lady on the boat is
scanning the waters, her eyes sharp with concern. Edward feels another wave crash over
him, but he fights to focus on what matters—
“There! I see someone!” the woman suddenly shouts, pointing into the rolling waves, and
Edward feels his heart leap.
He yells again, “Naja! Elvira!” as he struggles against the rope, trying to leap back into the
water. The man tightens his grip, shaking his head. “Stay with us! We’ll get them!”
“No! I can’t leave them!” Edward can feel the panic flickering within him, but he knows he
must remain calm for their sake. Shaking with adrenaline, he glances back at the cleaving
waves. Miraculously, through the swirling depths and chaos, he catches sight of Elvira,
clinging desperately to a floating piece of debris, her face pale and terrified. “Elvira!” he
shouts, heart pounding as he feels the world narrowing in on them.
“Go!” the woman urges. “We’ll bring you back to retrieve them!”
Edward hesitates, fear clawing at him, but the sight of Elvira’s struggling figure galvanizes
him. “I’ll come back!” he throws over his shoulder, feeling the tug of the rope once more as
they pull him onto the sailboat.
