leads to the police station foyer, where people usually come in from the street to

report crime or get a passport and driver's license.
Because of today's special occasion, rows of chairs have been placed in the

middle of the room, so that the associated press can sit and watch the session.

There’s only twenty chairs, but the room is filled with over fifty people, so they
have to sit on the floor or stand awkwardly up against the walls. At the end of the

room, where the receiving counter is, a microphone stand is located, with its

related components, and behind it a row of four chairs.
The droning sounds of the people’s voices suddenly stops as the chief of police

and the mayor make their entry into the room. They both take a seat on the row
behind the microphone. For a while the only sound that can be heard is the

buzzing sound of the fax-machine working.

Finally, the chief gets up from his chair and walks the few steps towards the
                   microphone.

“First of all, welcome here at Brighton Police Station. Though I bid you a good

welcome, we are joined because of this tragic occasion. I will now give briefly
review the preliminary investigations of yesterday's incident, but before I go any

further, I would like to emphasize that all of Brighton's police and Brighton's
politicians send our deepest thoughts and compassion to the victims and their

                   families."

He takes a short break and gasps for breath a bit.
“After I go through the points I consider most valuable, the mayor of the city

will then say a few words. Later there will be a chance to ask questions to me, on

behalf of the Brighton’ police force, and to the city's mayor Frank Gustavson.
He goes on and puts his gold-framed reading glasses on his nose and pulls out

the report he has in his inner pocket and proceeds.

“What we know so far is that one or probably several people have disconnected
the power connection intentionally. They managed to cut cables to the power

supply box. So far, according to eyewitness reports, we know that the crime was

probably committed by a group of people, as we have over thirty inquiries from
people who have had their belongings stolen during the power outage. We

suspect it is the same perpetrators who are behind the robberies, who also
disconnected the power. We haven’t received any inquiries that would indicate
