                 Daegu Sinmyeong High School was started in 1907 by Martha Scott Bruen, the
                 wife of Henry Munro Bruen, a missionary from Presbyterian Church of U.S.A.,
                 at her residence in Namsan-dong (current, Dongsan-dong)  under the name of
                 Sinmyeon Girls’ Middle School. The main building was relocated in the current
                 location and was built with bricks in 1913.
                 During the March 1st Movement, students actively participated in the
                 independence movement under the direction of teacher Lee Jae-in. In 2004,
                 when it changed to coeducational, its name was changed to Sinmyeong High
                 School. Sinmyeong High School aims to create Christian culture. To achieve
                 this goal, it has been striving to educate people to be upright, talented, active,
                 social, and global.

                                                                                                   Sawol Church began on November 21, 1898 when about 10 people, including Kim Myung-
                                                                                                   geun and his wife and Park Tae-bok’s mother, gathered to worship at the house of Kim
                                                                                                   Myung-geun in Maeho-dong (then Gosan-myeon, Gyeongsan-gun)  inviting missionary J. E. Adams.
                                                                                                   In 1902, the church was relocated by purchasing a three-spaces of thatched house in
                                                                                                   Sawol-dong, where many of the church members lived. According to the “Chosun Yesugyo
                                                                                                   Presbyterian Church”, it is recorded as a church established in 1901.
                                                                                                   Please take a closer look at the early history. Kim Gyeong-soo, who first preached the
                                                                                                   gospel in Cheongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do, was also
                                                                                                   from Sawol Church. Kim Gyeong-soo, a native of Cheongdo, came to a market in Daegu
                                                                                                   as he met missionary J. E. Adams, and became a Christian and preached the gospel to
                                                                                                   his hometown of Cheongdo and Miryang, where his relatives lived. After missionary J. E.
                                                                                                   Adams, missionary Henry Munro Bruen was in charge of the Sawol Church since 1905. He
