Jacheon church was built by Missionary Erdman and the believers. The building has had
a little long square from east to west and a hipped roof, and its main gate is located in the
both sides of it. The inside of it has an underfloor-heating room in both sides of the rear of
it, and it was used for the visiting missionaries.
The central part of it was partitioned to get room for church divided according to men’s
seats and women’s. Jacheon Church was designated as a local cultural heritage in
Gyeongsangbuk-do in 2003, received financial support from Gyeongsangbuk-do and
Yeongcheon-si, and was restored after examination by cultural heritage experts, and held
a thanksgiving service for the completion of the church on April 1, 2006. Recently, Hanok
(Korean-style house), which was located in front of the chapel, has been donated and used
Handong Global University as an educational center, giving off the charm of the Hanok-style chapel.

Handong University is a university that prides itself on being ‘the university of God’. In
September 1992, Song Tae-heon obtained the approval to establish a school corporation,
Hyundong School, and opened as Handong University in 1995, and Dr. Kim Young-gil was
inaugurated as the first president. Handong University does not have a long history, but its
Jacheon Church (2003 designated as a local cultural heritage in Gyeongsangbuk-do)
impact on Korean society is great.
This fact is well illustrated in “Handong Vision Statement”. Handong Global University
will become an international university that educates 21st-century leaders who change

honest intellectuals who devote themselves to various academic disciplines with a Christian
worldview to recover the true purpose of education, restore Biblical creationism, and
