Cheongsong Hwamok Church
Hwamok Church in Hyeonseo-myeon,
Cheongsong-gun which was established
in 1904 is the first church in Cheongsong,
Gyeongsangbuk-do. Um Jooseon, a Probation
Pastor who passed the pastor’s examination
in May 1950 and was appointed as the pastor
of Hwamok Church, was kidnapped before
ordained as a pastor by North Korean defectors
who invaded South Korea on Feb. 17, 1951,
during an early morning prayer meeting. The
commander of the 10th Division of the Korean
People’s Army conciliated him, saying “If you

gave up your faith, your life will be saved.”
However, he rather spread the gospel and was dragged 12 kilometers toward Chunsan
Mountain and stabbed 19 times by the North Korean People’s Army’s bayonet to death.
