        What  emerges  from  these  words  is  that  the   האפה  םוקמ  רועיש  רשא  ,םירבדה  ולאמ  אצויה
        measurement of the pe’ah on the temple starts above   ת ֶ ל ֶ ח ְ ת ַ מש  םוקמ  ןמל  ,הלעמלמ  ת ֶ ל ֶ ח ְ ת ַ מ  אעדצהב
        from the point (parallel to the top of the ear) where    הזו ,ןזואל ךומס ןזואה לע הלעמל לובגל ץוח תאצל
        the hair starts to expand above the ear, adjacent to the    תלחתמ ןהינש דגנכ ןי ֵּ ב ִ מ עצמאבו ”.ןזוא ירוחא" ארקנ
        ear. This is what is referred to as “behind the ear.”

        The Beit Lechem Yehuda adds that according to the Arizal, one should be careful not to cut even a little above
        the top of the ears (i.e., the height of the ears when they are upright adjacent to one’s head).

                               The Lower Edge




        Although the location of the upper edge seems relatively clear, Rishonim dispute the
        exact location of the lower edge of the pe’ot. The first opinion is that of Rashi and the
        Meiri, who hold that it extends until the end of the bone, which is opposite the middle
        of the ear (see illustration).

        On the head – Regarding the rounding [of the pe’ot   ביתכ תאפ אהד םיתש שאר תפקה לע – שארה לע
        of] the head, [one is liable for] two [sets of lashes],   )זכ תומש( ומכ אוה הצקו ףוס ןושל האפו )טי ארקיו(
        as it is written “pe’at” (Vayikra 19:27) [without a vav,    םע תלוגלגה רוביח םוקמ בגנ תאפל )םש( םי תאפל
        in singular], and “pe’at” is an expression [that refers          .ןיעדצה םוקמ ןהו יחלה
        to] an end and an edge, similar to (Shemot 27:12):
        “Towards the western edge [lipe’at yam],” “towards
        the southern edge” [lipe’at negev]. [Consequently, it
        refers to] the place where the skull joins the jaw, which
        is the location of the temples.
