Regarding the corner of the head, one is liable twice, once for
this [side] and once for that [side], meaning one temple on
this side and one temple on that side. [These are] the points

the upper jaw, where the face and ears are.
the protrusions on the ears, and this is [what the Talmud תצקש ונזא ירוחאל ויעדצ הושמ ןינע אוהו
means by] “evening the temples behind his ears,” as there is
no hair on some of the forehead and behind the ear, and in
between them is the hair called a temple, and he shaves it and
evens his temples behind his ears. .

The second approach is taken by the Rivan that the pe’ot extend until the location where the earlobe is no
longer attached to the cheek (see illustration).

the beard begins, and everything above that until .
the temple is included in the pe’ot of the head.

The Shulchan Aruch appears to rule in accordance with the second opinion that the pe’ot harosh extend until
where the earlobe separates from the jawbone. Nevertheless, Rav Meir Arik argues that according to Torah
law, the halacha is in accordance with the first approach, and the Shulchan Aruch was stringent on a rabbinic
level. He adds that when the Shulchan Aruch says one must leave “until below the ear,” he means only until
        the beginning of the earlobe.
