movie is a proxy of reality but not a heightened
version of it and to try and make it look realistic is
simple but it isn’t easy. Cinematography is the ability
to visually represent the points you are trying to
convey to the audience without saying a word.
The art of cinematography is rather challenging,
being able to visualize conversations and emotions
are the single most important aspect of
cinematography, one good example of good
cinematography when it comes to visualizing
emotions and moods comes from the movie Tenet.
A particular scene in the movie is staged in a
restaurant with the protagonist and Kat, the entire
scene flows in the direction of the person in control
of the conversation, while Kat had the upper hand
to begin with as the protagonist needed Kat’s help,
we would see Kat in a wider lens shot with most of
the screen covering the background indicating that
she didn’t feel pressured in this situation or
threatened as she had the upper hand, however
