Extracurricular
Extracurricular is a gripping and violent thriller
disguised under the thin veil of a high school
story. At first glance, it may seem like any other
teenage show but underneath that cover lies a
story filled with deceit, lies, and cover-ups.
The show is primarily in Korean with English
subtitles and runs for 10 episodes, each about an
hour long. Despite the length, it manages to keep
the viewers at the edge of their seats. The
characters are in a world that may seem foreign
to the viewers, almost seeming like a dystopian
future but on analyzing the show again we realize
that such situations may and do happen in real life
as well. The show is primarily character-driven,
and it is their decisions, thoughts, and actions
that impact the plot.
The show’s characters for the most part are all
grey, neither falling into the ‘good’ nor the ‘bad’
sections. The protagonists mainly tend to have
these moments often during the show which ends
up in us feeling unsure about them, whether to
root for them or oppose them.
