BUNKERS

Hazeltine National currently has a total
of 108 bunkers, an increase from 86 when
the course opened in 1962. In preparation
for the 2016 Ryder Cup, every bunker
was overhauled with the Better Billy
Bunker drainage system and the sand was
upgraded to Ohio’s Best. The result of the
upgrade were bunkers that could sustain
the heavy rain in the days leading up to the

Ryder Cup, as well as bunkers that were
brighter and more visible to the player’s eye. Hole #11 Approach (prior to bunker renovation)

SIGHT LINES Holes #9 & #18 Tees

Starting in 2014, we removed various trees in an effort to bring back shot values that had been minimized by overgrown
trees. The initiative benefited us in many ways including increased turf quality, spectator viewing angles, opening sight
lines throughout the course, and an overall sense of place as the clubhouse can now be seen from 16 of the 18 holes. Many
of the approach shots now have an infinity look as they formerly had trees behind them to give the player depth perception.
