AstraZeneca Newark is a 570,000-square-foot manufacturing facility located in
Newark, Delaware. Many AstraZeneca’s products are manufactured, formulated,
packed, warehoused, and distributed from this location.
A renovation was initiated to expand the functionality and capacity of an existing
Process Area. Also, the manufacturing of a new product created the need to
dovetail new unique equipment with the existing systems.
DEDC is an AstraZeneca Engineering Alliance Partner. For this project, DEDC was
responsible for managing design in all disciplines as well as completing the
mechanical and electrical engineering and design. The project included converting
general areas to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) spaces. HVAC and exhaust
upgrades were implemented to ensure constant temperature and humidity as well
as the required air changes per hour (ACH). Plumbing system modifications to
support process needs were also required.
The renovations required careful coordination with multiple disciplines and well as
close coordination with the facilities, operations, and maintenance teams.
