Dunkin Donuts Mid-Atlantic Distribution Center

Design Statement: Bernardon provided architectural and
interior design services, as well as coordination of structural
engineering, for this 125,000 SF office and distribution facil-
ity, which includes cooler and freezer areas as well as ambient
storage and 12,400 SF of office space.

Tilt-up concrete was used for construction of the exterior
wall panels to satisfy both budget and scheduling criteria.
Panels are a maximum of 40 feet high and are 7 1/4” thick,
maximizing the efficiency of the concrete. The use of tilt-up
enabled the entrance facade of the office area to be curved,
high-lighting the building’s entrance and providing a coun-
terpoint to the rectangular mass of the building. Forms were
used to provide a “dished” surface upon which to pour the
curved panels. The result is a very striking design that cre-
ates a strong image for the user.
