Mission Paani
As a part of a nation-wide water conservation campaign, Network
-18 launched a campaign called Mission Paani to create an
awareness about water conservation, and the need for a mass
movement towards the same. The program focused on the need to
conserve water, especially rainwater, which accounts for 96 percent
of India's total water needs.
An invitation was received by the school from Network 18
regarding the launch event of Mission Paani. On Tuesday, 27
August 2019, students and teachers attended the event at J. W.
Marriot, at Juhu, Mumbai. They were inspired by listening to 'Jal
Rakshaks' – citizens who adopt water - efficient life styles in their
surroundings.
Students were also a part of the conversations which included
discussions on how a school can bring about a change in this noble
mission. The preparation for the event had started one week prior
wherein the students with the help of teachers, had researched on
various innovations and techniques to save water, especially on the
five aspects namely, water conservation and rainwater harvesting,
revival of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and
recharging of structures, watershed development, intensive
afforestation and the challenges faced.
Students understood the importance of water harvesting and
identified ways in which they can conserve water at home and
school. Students were delighted to be a part of a thoughtful and
enterprising launch event of “MISSION PAANI“. The initiative
was to create awareness and effect societal mind set change
towards the domain of water conservation.
