‘Song from my mind’ by Jeong-suk Cha
It is novel and marvelous at any times to see fresh buds shooting from bare branches and tree leaves tu-
ring light green. In such a time, I feel like giving a name to each color of the leaves. Also I feel like calling
flowers, trees and shrubs scattered in the field by the names of jewels. As I look at them, I feel like I am
already a rich man even though there is nothing luxurious in my hand. I can understand why painters in
the past were immersed in nature which is filled with life.
Pictures created by Jeong-suk Cha describe a forest decorated with gorgeous colors. A season is con-
tained in the picture, where a mountain is making a curve and a feast is taking place everyday. It seems
that the picture is producing a group dance of forest and that spectators will be excited by verisimilitude
and vividness of colors. However, the artist initially did not intend to portray a forest. Even some time ago,
she would use as a motive port, human body, still life, the bank of a stream, etc. but, in recent days, she is 48 내 마음의 노래 Acrylic on Canvas 54.5x33.4cm 2021
captivated by a forest instead.
In the forest depicted by Jeong-suk Cha, thousands or ten thousands of trees are dressed in splendid
colors and take pride in themselves. We cannot think of an autumn not painted with dark brown, nor can
we think of a mountain not filled with wood. If there is no forest, how dry our life would be! By the way,
the mountain portrayed by her is somewhat unique. That is, so to speak, a mountain covered with flower
carpets, a mountain. topped with laurels, or a mountain on which precious stones are hanging in clusters.
She recognizes a mountain in such a way for the artist considers nature as a living creature or a thing
filled with energy. She says that she herself is filled with energy and excitement when the artist glares at a
mountain. For her, a mountain is a beautiful thing and what is like lungs which are breathing breath into
the earth..
In order to draw such an energetic world, the artist prefers to use high chroma colors. For example, she

will put red over burnt umber, cover white with pink, or spread magenta, vermilion, green and yellow over
white. Each color is sparkling while being in contrast with the other color so that abundance. may be added
to the canvas, which might be easily left. monotonous.
