3. LABUAN (LBN) MDSCS
Malaysian Domestic Submarine Cable
Submarine Cable Station System
Labuan Island has been declared as the
second Wilayah Persekutuan in 1984 but
partly some of the offices are still reporting
under the Sabah State Government. In
1994, Labuan Submarine Cable Services
and Labuan Satellite & Maritime Services
telecommunication project was launched
as a support to Labuan International
Business & Financial Centre (IBFC).
Operation &
Maintenance Strength
Labuan cable station has the
strength of one station manager
and three technical expertises and
one administrative officer with
normal manning hours and on
standby basis.
It was fully completed and ready for service
in 1996 with total cost more than RM260
million. Launched by YB Dato’ Seri Anwar
Ibrahim, then Deputy Prime Minister in
1997 and has been a crucial carrier for
telecommunications between
domestic and international to support the
Oil & Gas companies investing in Malaysia. Technical

The Labuan teleport Satellite disk
has been dismantled in March 2014.

Connecting to Tg Aru, Sabah and via
branching unit to Miri and Kuching in
Sarawak using the Malaysian Domestic
Submarine Cable System North Link
(MDSCS-MDN).
