FRANCHISE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH AFRICA (FASA)
As the oldest internationally recognised Franchise Association on the continent, FASA
has been responsible for the roll-out of ethical franchising in South Africa. Full FASA
membership accreditation is granted to established companies who pass a rigorous
process including a thorough assessment of the viability of the franchise concept, as
well as the presence of the appropriate compliant documentation.
ESTATE AGENCY AFFAIRS BOARD
Membership is not negotiable — this board is the main regulatory body for the property
industry and property professionals must belong to it. The Estate Agency Affairs
Boards (EAAB) is our industry regulator, with the mandate to regulate and control
certain activities of estate agents in the public interest and to drive transformation in
our industry. The EAAB issues Fidelity Fund Certificates as confirmation that qualifying
agents are legally entitled to carry out their business.
RENTAL HOUSING TRIBUNAL
Born from the Rental Housing Act, RHTs resolve disputes between landlords and
tenants. The services rendered are free and can be used by tenants, landlords and
property agents. The tribunals have the power to determine issues relating to non-
payment of rentals, failure to refund deposits, overcrowding, unacceptable living
conditions, harassment and intimidation, lack of maintenance, determination of fair
rentals, unlawful seizure of tenant’s belongings, discrimination, exploitive rentals, illegal
lock-out or illegal disconnections.
INSTITUTE OF ESTATE AGENTS SOUTH AFRICA
The Institute of Estate Agents South Africa (IEASA) is a labour organisation and
provides two distinct services to its members; to provide principals and agents with
training sessions by top speakers and engaging with industry stakeholders, guiding and
steering the organisation and its members through legislative requirements and
engaging positively with other industry stakeholders like the major lending institutions,
the EAAB, the Services Sector Education and Training Authority (SSETA) and various
government sectors.

transform, uplift, empower and develop the real estate profession across all areas of the
market, achieving an environment for business to thrive in and expand while
contributing to a vibrant economy’. Membership is voluntary.
