This undated aerial photo (probably from the 1940s) shows downtown Olympia. Sylvester Park and the old Capitol

building (now the Superintendent of Public Instruction offices) are at far right. Just above the center of the photo is

the Mottman building. Capitol Way runs left to right through the center of the photo, while 4th Avenue runs from

bottom left to top center. The dome-roofed building at lower left is today’s Olympia Oyster House. Much of the

tideflat in the right foreground is solid ground today. 14
