Other Keep Wales Tidy programmes have been an excellent way of increasing our engagement
with schools. The Local Places for Nature scheme has seen developments in 59 schools. These
break down as being 54 food growing and five wildlife packages.
There has been great success with the
Litter Free Zones scheme, whereby
a school or business adopt specific
zones to clean-up on a regular
basis. This helps to improve the
local environment and contribute to
regenerating the local community.
We sign post schools towards it and
continue to see schools signing up.
The My Tree, Our Forest: for schools project has seen
over 8000 trees planted in 100 schools. An important
part of this project was the tie in with the Eco-Schools
programme– it offers a plan for long term engagement
with the schools and therefore ongoing support for the
care of the trees.
