Numbers speak volumes to me. To record and build upon a foundation to propagate success, Loram has created
over 250 Quality Management System procedures and documents associated with this production. Annually, this is
about 130,000 shop labor hours and 125,000 engineer hours to produce five to nine machines. And if we look at one
machine, RG421 for instance, it takes about 23,000 shop hours to prepare for service. And about 700 hours for a
material handling car (MHC). Behind the scenes, RG421 required 18,000 inventory transactions. About 1400 shop
orders (assembly actions) and 1,000 interactions with engineering. And this is the twentieth machine of its model.
So, to those on the outside, it may seem like a large black caldron that decisions, money and steel are inputted, and
out comes a machine. But internally, more than 300 staff find themselves participating in a machine build following
hundreds of processes. Why so many? As the Loram machines becomes more cost effective, safe and productive, we
continue to leverage unique skillsets to complete each task. The team grows as niche skillsets are applied to create
greatness. And let’s not forget the hundreds of field staff production testing our equipment daily. At Hamel, we un-
derstand that our experienced field crews put all the machines to test, providing us valuable feedback to push us
along the perfection journey.
To summarize, in the past one person may have done several parts of the process, albeit less effectively. Today, with
good collaboration, we have leveraged 30 plus groups of people to each do something specific to their skillsets, and
to do them well. This allows us to scale to be the billion-dollar company we desire to be. It took us time to figure
this out. And more improvement will be achieved as we scale. It’s the knowledge and skillsets of the people in the
box that makes Loram so competitive and allows us to set the benchmark to quality product for the industry. Keep
up the good work.

What is your favorite sport to watch and which team do
you root for? College football and MLB baseball are my fa-
vorite sports to watch. I will always pull for Virginia Tech
(GO HOKIES) and the Boston Red Sox.
How do you like to pass time when you get a day off? I
spend as much time as I can communicating with my wife and
kids via Facetime as children change daily while you are on the
road and I don’t want to miss anything.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise your
co-workers? I really love to cook.
