          Canadian National Railway Company

CN celebrated their 100 anniversary in 2019. They evolved from a collection of disparate government-
                                  th
owned railways to a leading publicly traded North American transportation and supply chain company.
In the early years Canadian National engaged in a fierce competitive struggle with the privately owned
Canadian Pacific Railway. This ended with the Canadian National – Canadian Pacific Act of 1933. Which
directed the railways to cooperate by eliminating duplication of services.

On November 17, 1995 the Government of Canada privatized CN. This establishes a record as Cana-
da’s largest Crown corporation and one of the largest in the world to be privatized.

In 1998 the CN pioneers a new model of railroading that calls for a revolutionary data-driven approach.
Today, this is the Precision Scheduled Railroading (PSR) model. The PSR model is a proven model that
other railroads are implementing some variation of it.

Only transcontinental rail network in North America connecting to three coasts, Atlantic in Nova Scotia,
Pacific in British Columbia and the Gulf of Mexico.
