OPERATIONS UPDATE
Turning the Corner? Continued
Collins dictionary defines turning the page as: to make a new start after a period of difficulties. I want to
focus on the new start part of this definition when thinking about our operation. Each year comes to an end, and
only due to a change in a calendar date. Yet we look at it as a marker to measure our performance for the year
and mentally think about how we’re going to improve the next year. We count inventory, make yearend repairs,
fill out performance reviews, celebrate various holidays, go home for time off and gather with families.

Turning the page for us is more symbolic as we literally turn the page to the next year and start all over
again. We get a chance to make changes to our business operations, set personal development or career goals,
and do it all with a clean sheet of paper so to speak. If you think about it, turning the page is almost a reset button
for us. All our measures that we use to judge ourselves start off the year at Zero. (Well almost all, our rolling
safety rates do not). Even so, we get the sense of a new start while attending start up meetings and looking both
forward and back to see how and where we’ve succeeded and where we can improve.
So, you may be asking yourself, where the heck is he going with all this? Let me try to summarize my
thoughts. We’re turning both the corner and the page as we wrap up 2021. We can all but guarantee that 2022
will have more turning of corners with new hurdles. So, as we wrap up the year and turn the page, we need to
reflect on what made us successful in 2021 and how we prepare ourselves for the next chapter in 2022. We have
the storied success of Loram at our backs and therefor our support as we take on yet another year of executing
our Operational Excellence strategy in the rail industry and for our customers!
Thank you for all your work through 2021!
Sincerely, Kevin
(Bring it on 2022!)
