SPOTLIGHT ON DC1
October’s spotlight is on Robert Doelker, Crew Chief of RV18.
When did you start with Loram? I started with Loram on July 8, 2013. I
started on RV6 as a General Laborer working on an Amtrak contract. I
transferred to RV1, where I was promoted to Operator-1. While working
on RV1, I was promoted to Operator-2 and my current position Crew
Chief. RV1 was the first railvac I was in charge of and I have run the follow-
ing machines: RV6, RV12 and my current machine RV18.
Where are you from? I was born and raised in Kissimmee, Florida until I
graduated high school. I joined the military and lived in California for 5
years. I currently live in Milesburg, Pennsylvania since 1998. I like living in
small town quiet communities. The worse thing about Milesburg is it’s 20
minutes away from Penn State University. I moved there after leaving the
military. I met my wife while in California. She is from State College Penn-
sylvania. That’s a few minutes from Milesburg.
What is your best memory? My best memory was this past May. I went
bow fishing for the first time and caught a 12-inch gar.
Do you have a favorite location? I have worked in some big towns and
some very small towns. I enjoy seeing a variety of locations.
What is your favorite thing about working at Loram? My favorite thing
about working for Loram is that you get to travel all over the United States.
What's the best task to perform on the machine? Digging and operating is the best task to do on the machine.
What's the worst task to perform on the machine? The worst task is
scrapping the mud and dirt off the machine daily.
Something about yourself that would surprise your coworkers and what
do you like to do when I have a day off? When I have a day off, I spend
most of my time doing needlepoint and counted cross stitch. I have been do-
ing needlework since I was 7 years old. Working in this field you catch some
slack about a man doing needlework.
What do you like to do on time off? When I am home, I enjoy going fishing
and camping with my family. I either go to Sawyers Dam or Black Moshannon.
The campsites are right next to the lake.
What is the best advice you were ever given and who was it from?
When I was a new hire, I was told by Tracy Norman “You work for what
you want in your career, nothing is given”.
What advice would you give to a new employee at Loram? The best ad-
vice I could give to a new employee at Loram is don’t settle for the position
you are currently in strive to take your boss’s Jobs.
