OPERATIONS UPDATES
Operational Excellence Coins
Congratulations to the following employees
for being recognized with an Operational
Excellence Coin in September!
Kiara Reid, Machine Operator-2 RG406 was nominated by Sam Madseb, Manager Rail Grinding
On September 10, 2020 Kiara Reid alerted his supervisor that there was an issue with another crew member. At
the start of the shift, Kae and a coworker we’ll call Mr. R were up front as operators of RG406. Just as the ma-
chine got time to come out of the hole, Mr. R who was going to be operating informed Kae that he was not feel-
ing well and needed to sit down and get something to eat. Kae took over the controls and brought the machine
out of the hole and traveled to the work site. During this time, he noticed that Mr. R was kind of quiet. They
continued talking back and forth with the pilot as they traveled to the work location. Once at the work location,
they set down the buggies and started the work. At this point Kae had noticed that Mr. R was quiet and not talk-
ing, very unusual for him. So Kae asked him a few questions and when he did not get any response, he brought
the machine to a stop and called for the supervisor to come up front. Once the supervisor saw that Mr. R was
acting unusual and answered a few questions wrong, they determined that he needed immediate medical atten-
tion.
Kae showed care and concern for his fellow crew
member and took immediate action by stopping the
work to get Mr. R evaluated and get the medical atten-
tion he needed. Kae was not only operating the ma-
chine and making sure they had the correct authorities,
but also paying attention to his fellow crew member
who was not acting his normal self.
John Fish, Superintendent RGS14 was nominated by Zebediah Dintelman, Manager Rail Grinding
I would like to award John Fish with the September Operational Excellence Coin. John who transferred from
RGS10 showed up blindly to RGS14 to complete a quick, last minute project on the CSX. Despite never seeing
the grinder, John was able to bring his experience and knowledge to RGS14 and start the project on schedule. In
three shifts the crew of RGS14, led by John, ground 223 units and helped keep the machine on schedule for the
Amtrak contract.
