We Are One
Jayden lowered his head in shame and whispered,
“I am so sorry, Isabella.” She responded, “Shhh, its
okay.” He dipped into his pocket and handed over
her three dollars.
Suddenly, they heard an explosion of applause.
They had no idea that they were being watched by
their teacher and classmates. Jayden burst into
tears and then hugged Isabella fiercely. “Thank
you”, he mumbled. Isabella smiled through her
tears of happiness. Mrs. James then stated, “I trust
that this is a lesson for all of us. Though we may be
from different places, we are one people.”
Jayden nodded, “Yes, we are one.”
Isabella then excitedly exclaimed, “Yes. We are not
just one people, we are one family. Uno!”
She smiled. She finally felt at home.
