ITEM 13 : REGIONAL AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
IN THE MAY-JUNE 2016 EXAMINATIONS
64. The SEC noted that the criteria for Regional Top Awards for the CSEC® and the
CAPE® were modified earlier in 2016. SEC also noted that two additional awards for the
CCSLC were included. At the CAPE® level there are nine cognate awards as well as an overall
award for the top CAPE® student. An award for Creative and Expressive Arts was included
as a new cognate grouping. The further SEC noted that no one satisfied the criteria for three
of the main cognate groups. Members were referred to the submission in the working
document for the list of top awardees across products.
ITEM 14 : MINING OF CXC STATISTICAL DATA
65. The SEC members were taken through a short tutorial on the mining of the CXC
Statistical Data. Dr McLean asked that data from as far back as possible be made available to
stakeholders on the CXC website. She added that controlled privileges could be given to
users to access different parts of the data. The Registrar advised that the CXC would be very
careful to post the data on its website since the information contained was not owned by the
CXC. However, the SEC was informed that each year the statistical data is placed on
DocuShare and that stakeholders with access to the ORS could also extract statistics from
that source.
ITEM 16 : ANY OTHER BUSINESS
66. Dr Mclean enquired of the communication protocol for the release of information
pertaining the CXC examination results for individual countries. The Registrar informed the
SEC that information on Top Awardees was sent to Ministries. Schools and Parents were
also contacted so that arrangements for travel to receive awards could be made. Generally,
information is sent to the Permanent Secretary, copied to the Chief Education Officer or Local
Registrar. Dr McLean suggested that if there was no protocol in place for how the CXC
and its partners communicate with the media, one be developed so that all parties could be
guided accordingly.
67. Mr Solomon Claxton publicly thanked the Registrar, Pro-Registrar and staff of the CXC
for their assistance and guidance throughout 2016.
68. There being no other business the meeting terminated.
