the three stages of the design process and the instructional approach would take them
through three stages: Inspiration, Ideation, Implementation.
iv. Approval of revisions to two CAPE® syllabuses: CAPE® Electrical and Electronic
Engineering Technology, and History. The CAPE® Electrical and Electronic
Engineering Technology syllabus has been approved for distribution in 2016 and
examination in 2017. The SEC noted that while the History syllabus had been
distributed in 2016, the SUBSEC had approved the deferral of teaching to 2017 to
allow teachers to become familiar with the document as well as to allow preparation
for the delivery of the content and the development of resources. The SUBSEC also
approved revisions to the CSEC® Agricultural Science syllabus with the final
document for distribution and teaching in 2016 and examinations in 2018.
v. Approval of the revised CVQ® Handbook which had been made available to
stakeholders online at www.cxc.org
vi. Approval of the proposal for the scoring of SBA group work to award every individual
who participate in a group the same score. The change was effective for 2016.
vii. Approval of the revised Top Award Criteria for the CCSLC® to:
a. remove the criterion for excellence which requires mastery for English and
Mathematics be obtained in the same sitting; and,
b. base the sole ranking criterion on total t-scores.
viii. Approval of the proposal for the promotion and inclusion of a fixed percentage (8 to
12) of pretest items on live test forms.
50. The SEC noted the approvals given at the 2016 meetings of the SUBSEC and ratified
the major decisions of those meetings.
51. The SEC noted that workshops were conducted for a number of recently revised and
newly developed syllabuses. A total of 1 165 persons participated in those workshops. In
addition, the CXC had responded to requests from territories and conducted workshops, on
demand, for the CPEA®, the CCSLC®, the CSEC® and the CAPE®.
52. Professor Harris enquired whether the CXC has been monitoring the adoption of the
subjects it has been introducing over the years. He explained that the ability of teachers in
the region to deliver the content of the syllabuses may negatively affect uptake. The Pro-
Registrar informed the SEC that virtual subject associations were established to provide
support, which included lessons and discussions for teachers and that the associations were
regularly monitored.
53. Professor Harris expressed concern about the number of teachers who were not able
to competently mark online and enquired whether, besides the coaching given during the
marking period, there were workshops throughout the year to address those issues of
