of a CXC text and Study Guide as factors that were disadvantageous to improved performance.
She wanted to know when an Integrated Mathematics text book would be available.
To remedy the situation, Members heard that several intervention measures were employed:
team teaching, tutorials, and CSEC Mathematics classes for those students who did not pass the
subject at CSEC level. She expressed hope that for this academic year, the pass rate would
surpass 50% so students could attain their Associate Degree.
For the first time in a decade, the CAPE examinations were held at the Montserrat Community
College. Dr. Barnes thanked the invigilation team for the daily prayers to begin the day and for
establishing an atmosphere conducive to good outcomes.
Members heard that more CAPE SBAs were submitted electronically this year, and that the
process proved less challenging than the previous year.
Report on the 2017 CSEC and CCSLC Performance
The Committee received the CSEC and CCSLC reports from the Principal of the Montserrat
(Government) Secondary School. She pointed out that the school recorded the largest number of
student entry ever for the CSEC examinations this year. Seventy - six (76) students wrote a total
of four hundred and sixty eight (468) subject entries in the 2017 CSEC Examinations at General
and Technical Proficiency Levels. This represented an increase of 22 in the number of students
writing exams. Additionally there was an increase by 131 in the subject entries at the MSS in the
2016 exams.

Grades I – III passes were obtained in three hundred and fifty five (355) subject entries yielding
a pass rate of 75.8%, down from 79.8% in 2016. Of the 23 subject proficiencies taken at CXC
