3. CXC’s planned expansion to the CPEA external examinations with the inclusion of Civic
Literacies, and training sessions for the grade 6 teachers did not materialised. CXC has
now indicated that this would take place in 2018.
4. The local External Examiners for PE and Sports operated on their own for the first time
this year after they were trained in 2016 by CXC Chief Examiner for the subject. A one
day refresher training workshop was held in April at the sports stadium for the EAs. The
fourth form PE and Sports students from MSS participated. One highlight was the
session conducted by the Local Registrar on question construction.
5. For the first time the French and Spanish orals were done over two days due to the
increase in candidate numbers. Mrs. Jacqueline Hewlett, the External Examiner for the
French and Spanish oral examinations conducted the orals.
6. CXC’S e-testing for the 2017 January and May-June paper ones commenced in 2017.
With the exception of Mathematics and English in May June, Montserrat candidates did
all the paper ones for both examination periods online for CSEC and most CCSLC
exams. The venue was the IT labs at MSS.
7. The Salem Primary School was renovated to serve as the centre for the CSEC
examinations, as this location was closer to the MSS, and allowed candidates to move to
the labs for the online examinations in a timely manner.
8. The CAPE exams were held at the Montserrat Community College, the first time since
1997.
9. Mr. Denfield Cadette Morris attended a CXC one-day technician meeting in Barbados on
the et-testing procedures.
10. CXC also conducted online training sessions with Mrs. Jemmotte, Mrs. Mary Weekes
and the Local Registrar on the administration of the online testing.
11. CXC also conducted online training for the Industrial Technology teacher and
Moderators. This took place at the Ministry of Education. Although this approach could
not match the benefits derived from face to face encounter, participants expressed
appreciation for the event.
12. For the first time, the Technical Drawing SBAs were moderated locally. Local architect,
Mr. Roydenn Silcott, consented to be our Local Moderator.
13. CXC conducted monthly online meetings with the Local Registrars. This was quite
useful as it provided the opportunity to get clarification on issues and procedures in a
timelier manner.
14. CXC disclosed that CPEA SBAs would be moderated locally from 2018. The
examinations would be held over a two day period instead of one due to the inclusion of
the Civic Literacy test. The Local Registrar has requested that CXC schedules one exam
for the morning and one for the afternoon instead of cramming two in the morning
session.
15. Miss José White, grade six teacher at the Brades Primary School, travelled to Barbados in
May to assist with the moderation of the 2017 CPEA SBAs.
