helping schools and teachers to enhance their existing ICT capacities and generate new
digital resources to better serve their students. The objective of the workshop was to
foster a collaborative approach in which a community of practice would be developed,
involving the participants in the programme.
In an effort to implement the revised CSEC Mathematics Syllabus (effective from 2018),
the Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation and Ecclesiastical Affairs hosted a

two-day workshop for 3 , 4 and 5 Form Mathematics teachers on 9 and 11

November, 2016. Another workshop was convened for 4 and 5 Form Mathematics

teachers on 7 February, 2017. The purpose of these workshops was to enhance teachers’
capacity to administer the SBA component of the syllabus. In addition, an
implementation plan for completion of the project was developed.

A meeting for 4 and 5 Form English teachers was held on 29 November, 2016. The
purpose of this meeting was to enhance teachers’ capacity to administer the SBA
component of the revised CSEC English Syllabus (effective from 2018). An
implementation plan for completion of the project was shared and discussed.

A one-day workshop for teachers of CSEC Integrated Science was held on 28 February,
2017. The main aim of this workshop was to provide teachers of this subject with the
opportunity to become familiar with the procedure for the on-site moderation process
which became effective in March, 2017. In addition to this, a review session was also
held to evaluate two textbooks currently available for use in the teaching of the revised
CSEC Integrated Science Syllabus.
CSEC Caribbean History teachers and students of history participated in a needs
assessment study of the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) CSEC Caribbean
History syllabus. The assessment was conducted by Professor Stafford Griffith, Director
of the School of Education and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Education,
University of the West Indies, Mona. The aim of the needs assessment study was to help
CXC to determine and address the syllabus’s strengths and weaknesses in order to
