The preliminary results indicate that the proportion of students who met the prescribed standard
               was 1398 (85.35%). Of the 797 females sitting, 737 or 92.47% met the required standard, while

               of the 841 males sitting, 661 or 78.60% met the required standard.  These results represent an
               increase in performance over the previous year’s results.


               Last year of the 1786 students who wrote the exam, 1498 or (83.87%) of the students met the

               required standard.  Of the 877 females sitting, 788 or 89.85% met the required standard, while of

               the  909  males  sitting,  710  or  78.11%  met  the  required  standard.    There  are  47  schools  that
               recorded a pass rate in excess of 80%, this represents the same figure as last year’s number of

               schools.


               RECOMMENDATIONS FOR COUNCIL

                    Given the concerns that have been raised about the quality of e-marking an independent
                       verifier should be engaged to make an assessment of the e-marking process.

                    A request is being made for CXC to delay the implementation of the CAD only

                       requirement for CSEC Technical Drawing until the Ministry of Education is fully
                       equipped to offer the facility to students.

                    It is being requested that CXC gives the re-assurance that territories can continue with
                       paper based testing until they can arrive at the point to participate in e-testing.



               CONCLUSION
               CXC is being commended for the detailed report to the CXC National Committees for July 2017.

               The information provided on syllabuses developments and decisions taken at the SUBSEC and

               SEC meetings will assist the Ministry greatly in its planning.  The Ministry of Education will
               continue to work with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) to meet the educational needs

               of our students.
