CAPE
For the May/June 2017 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) there was a
candidate entry of 596; 553 of whom were from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community
College and 43 Private Candidates. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College
candidates sat 1877 examinations in 21 different subjects.
Passing grades (Grades 1 to V) were obtained in 1722 subject sittings representing an overall
pass rate of 91.74%. This represents an increase over the 2016 results where the overall pass rate
was 87.10%. This year’s results show that high pass rates have been maintained in most subjects
taken.
CSEC
This year, 2674 candidates were registered for the May/June 2017 Caribbean Examinations
Council Secondary Education Certificate Examinations (CSEC). Of these, 1093 were private
candidates and 1581 were school candidates.
There were 1563 school candidates sitting 10,982 subject entries in 33 subject areas, from 26
secondary schools. Approximately 73.25% of the subject entries were awarded Grades I – III
(the corresponding figure in 2016 was 74.66% and 75.15% in 2015).
This year, 11.40% of the passes were at Grade I level, 27.33% at Grade II and 34.52% at Grade
III. Last year’s figures were 12.30% at Grade I, 28.52% at Grade II and 33.84% at Grade III.
There were five schools which recorded percentage pass rates of 80% or more. Ten schools
obtained creditable pass rates between 60 % and 80%. The school which recorded the most
significant improvement over the previous year is the Georgetown Secondary School, whose
pass rate increased from 45.76% in 2016 to 65.92% in 2017. This represents a 20.16% increase.
CPEA
Of the 1643 Grade 6 students who registered for the 2017 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment
(CPEA), 1638 wrote the final examination.
