E-MARKING
Recruitment
60. FAC was informed that preparations for the online marking of the January 2017
examinations began in September 2016. Marker trends were examined and top markers were
identified. These formed the primary source of the marking personnel for January exams. A
total of 1,058 Markers were initially contracted for the marking exercise.
Helpdesk
61. FAC heard that the Helpdesk was initiated at the start of the standardization on 17
January and continued to 18 February. Between 16 January and 10 February, 89 calls and
1,056 emails and other written correspondences were received by the Helpdesk. The majority
of requests related to Marking Assignment and Login Issues.
Adherence to Despatch Schedule
62. FAC heard that with two exceptions, the LRs adhered to the scheduled dates for
shipment of scripts to the scanning bureau. The exceptions were the Turks and Caicos
Islands, and Guyana.
Internal Scanning and Processing of MCs
63. FAC heard that the January 2017 MC processing went well with no major issues. The
materials in the 12 subject areas were received on time from the territories, and processing
was completed almost a week earlier than in previous years.
64. Table 10 below gives the relevant details of the MC Processing:

Marking Successes
65. FAC heard that a major success for the 2017 January marking period occurred in
English B, where the onerous requirement that markers sift through questions to which
candidates had not responded - “No-Response” (consequent on the presence of optional
questions and markers who had a limitation regarding the genre which they could mark) was
