               53. FAC heard that the following recommendations were being considered in order to
               reduce the number of marker suspensions, especially in English A:
                       (i) Technical training for the Assistant Chiefs to ensure a greater level of
                              competence with the Tool;

                       (ii) The inclusion of Team Assistants to correct marker variance early and to
                              provide a measure of coaching;
                       (iii) More extensive marker standardization with emphasis being placed on
                              adherence to the mark scheme;
                       (iv) Marker categorization by areas of proven skill combined with targeted training

                              especially in the areas of proven challenge (Summaries, Short Stories and
                              Essays); and

                       (v) Expanding the level of recruitment to compensate for the higher levels of
                              suspension noted in January 2017 and June-July 2016 - in the case of the
                              January exams, this rose to 45 per cent for English A

               ELECTRONIC TESTING

               54. FAC was informed that in January, the twelve Multiple Choice papers offered in
               January, were examined utilising the new electronic Testing modality, and that seven
               territories participated in e-Testing, taking from one to eleven subjects in various
               combinations. FAC noted the summary of the level of participation in e-Testing by each of
               the territories, as shown in Table 9.
