Christmas
They poked jokes at each other about whose belly
got bigger and who had more grey hair. It was a
joy to be in the house. The television was on but no
one was watching it.
As the sun was setting, my uncle’s wife called
everyone in for dinner. It took a while for us to
settle down to eat. The exciting chatter grew louder
as the whole family piled into the old dining room.
We formed a circle around the table and thanked
God for His mercies and for bringing us together at
last.
We also thanked God for His many blessings
throughout the years. When that was finished the
children were served first and then the adults
helped themselves. There was a variety of food to
choose from. It was a meal fit for any banquet.
It was truly an incredible spread of food. Over at
our table we shared stories about our lives in our
various homelands. The adults shared amusing
stories about their childhood and their present
lives.
