Yield Not to Temptation
home alone. I didn’t feel like reading or doing
school work because my teacher pushes us a lot
at school so I do a lot of work there. I walked
round and round the house, room by room
looking for something to do. Before I knew it, I
was in the kitchen. Once more, I heard those
voices in my head. They were louder this time,
almost like they were shouting at me. One was
saying, “Girl, nothing is wrong with playing with
matches,” while the other voice was saying,
“Ereacka, listen to your mother; leave the matches
alone.”
I thought to myself, what if I play with it this one
time? It surely can’t do that much harm to me. I
looked around, and then quietly opened the
cupboard. I got the matches, opened the box
and took out one of the match sticks but I wasn’t
sure how to use it. I tried over and over again.
After a while, I got it lighted and after a few more
tries, I figured out what to do. Each time I struck
the match against the box, the match would light
up.
