Training Camps have again been impoo:iblo owing to the lack of
Transport and Tentage and once again we have had to resort to Schemes
covering a few days. These to ray inind, are more suitable and beneficial
than training camps for the type of men we are dealing with.
Individual and Collective training has been carried out and cadre
            courses held.
                  Signallers.

All men have passed the standard Indian Array tests and twenty in
Hello end Lamp. This I consider, reflects most favourably on the work
put in by Jemadar Ahned Sher, as themen whom he has had to train have not,
in all cases, been the most intelligent men in the Infantry, To make up
the Signal Platoon of the best men would result in deterioration in the
            training of Fiflfe Companies.
                  Artillery.

The training is exceptionally good considering the appallingly low
standard of education, and a considerable amount of praise is again due to
Jemadar Ahmed She-' for the work he has done and thejexcellent results he
has obtained, Firing practices have been carried out and the results were
            good.
The three pounder gun at "Irani was fired at both stationary and
moving targets out at sea and the results were surprisingly good. Thirty
rounds were fired and resulted in 19 direct hits and 9 "near misses"
being obtained on a target 15 feet square. Two shots fell very short,
due to faulty or old ammunition. Considerable difficulty is being ex
perienced in obtaining new ammunition for these guns, which are presumably
            more of less obsolete.
The 2.75 guns are now more or less immobilised ov/ing to lack of trans
port caused by failure to obtain any spare parts for the 1*5.T.
                  Machine Guns.
Training is good end shows a great improvement on last year, this is
due, I think, to Jecader Lashkaran’s training in India, He has now rea-
lised that the training of i-’achine gunners takes considerably longer than
two hours a day, unless the training period is go ng to be spread over
some years, The results of firing practices and schemes have been good.
As reported last year guns and trip'ds are long overdue for Arsenal
repair and are no longer safe for overhead or flanking fire except with
a greatly increased "safety limit" I shall try to arrange for these ’guns
to be replaced by new ones from India so that we shall not be left without
machine guns during the period that these guns will take to repair.
                  Weapon Training.
All Officers and men armed with the pistol have fired the course- as
laid down for the Indian Army, there were no .failures.

All men, other than recruits under taaining, have carried out Gre
nade training. Only a limited number of N C.O’s were able to carry* out
practices with.live bombs owing to shortage. Anti-aircraft training
has been discontinued this year, as serving no useful purpose. The
courses have produced good results as shown below:-
Rifle. Service Shots 193 Failed 6
           L.M.G. ■ a 52 H 3
