Instance received ordorc of suspension In the month of May
for acceptance of bribes and wa3 relieved on the 1st June
by Aqai Forugh who held charge of the appointment for the
rest of the year.
(l) Pollco Department.
Sarhang Hurmoz Glvlan remained as Chief of
Pollco throughout tho year. In the earlier stages of the Tudch
movement when tho Govornment/s policy wa3 not known his
attitude towards them was considered too mild but after a
short visit to Tehran in July ho changed and took tho strongest
measures against tho Tuueh on all occasions. Throughout
tho Tudeh troubles ho was ably and loyally supported by Captain
Eishmati, his assistant, Sarhang Givian successfulljfrounded up
a gang of burglars who for cone time had been troubling the
townsfolk er.d recovered most of the property stolen. At hla
sugjestion, the Central Government have provided a sum of
20,000 tomonsfor tho constriction of a new prison, 'fork on
the new prison started in-the middle of the year, Sarhang
Givian is a friendly and cooperative officer,
(j) Posts and Tela,?rach3 x
Aqai Mustafa Siruspccr held tho post of Director
of Posts and Telegraphs until Juno when ho left for Tehran on
leave. Work In the Department deteriorated during his period
of office. Ielegrar.3 were frequently delivered very late and
when the accumulation of them was more than his staff could deal
with they were sent tb their destinations by post. He cooperated
freely with the Tudeh Party and was accused of disclosing of: I-
-cial and public telegrams .to them. As tho result of many csr.-
-plalnts he was recalled to Tehran and Aqci Ahmad Gadri, a
former Director, took charge on the 9th September and remained in
office until tho end of the year.
(it) Health D-coart-ont,
Aqai Ali Akbar V&kili held charge of the post
of Chief Medical Officer, Kerman, until July ICth when he
was arrested by the Police and sent to Tehran for his Tudeh
activities. Before his deprxture he appointed Dr. Seyed Jarad
Xahhuri to officiate in his place but the Ustar.dsri appointed
Dr. Mohammad M&y/abl as they ruled that a man under arrest 7/as
not qualified to appoint his successor. As Dr. Yesdi was at
the time Minister for Health and a Tudeh supporter he confirmed
officially' the appointment of Dr. Kahhari. During his
ever long tenure aa ”ead of the 3ihdari he had ruined the medical
services of the province and the majority of those serving under
him were glad of his removal. Vskili was only allowed to
return to his former post in Kerr.an after he had given the
fullest assurances to exclude politics from his duties and
disassociate himself from the Tudeh, which he did. He returned
to Kerman in his former capacity on the 12th December a dis
illusioned and very subdued man.
The local Health Department received funds
amounting.to 20,000 tomans towards the construction of a
Government Hospital in Sirjan.
The Shah contributed 170,000 tomans towards the
construction cf a 60 bed hospital in Kerman tho foundation/of
which were laid over three years ago.
It is reported that during the year under re-
—view large quantities of drugs of the Health D,'p:rtraant have
been cold to lcc.l druggists end the proceeds misappropriated
by individual members of the Department.
