                 Sir,
In continuation of ray letter ITo. 803 dated let
September 1911 regarding the proposed pier at Manama, I
have the honour to inform you tliat Seth MaharaJ asked
to eee me the other day to ahow mo a plan of a pier or
wharf which he had had drami up, He aaid ho had aub-
raltted It to Sheikh laa who he thought with a little
                 encouragement would probably accept It,
I aaid that there wad already a aoheme under dlu-
ouaalon, and refused to commit myaelf in any way,
Hla action m having approached the Sheikh with
out preliminary reference to me, aeema open to objeo-
tlon, but hla employment aa an official of the Shaikh's
makoa hla poaitlon peculiar, and it la not at all im
probable that the Sheikh had invited hla opinion. I
therefore did not take MaharaJ dlreotly to task.
3, The acheme put forward la for a atone pier or
wharf 160' long and 76' wide running out towarda sea
from the Araara sea-wall. The outside walla at least
would be of hard out atone, and the aides would he
graded In atepa. It la claimed
                        (1) that llghtera of modorate alze will be able
to - come alongside at full tide and will be
able to discharge direct on to the pier, ob
viating the existing necessity of loading on
