Sir,
I am directed by the Duke of Devonshire to
refer to tho letter from the Foreign Office on the subject
of the measures to be taken to check the tyranny of the
f/i(V'' Sheikh of Bahrein and his family,(No.E.2313/6 7/91 dated
March 8th), and in particular to the last sentence of that
lotter, in which it is urged that., if moral pressure failB
to secure the desired result, resort should be had to
forcible intervention. In view of the interest which
V" ^aud has recently taken in Bahrein affairs, as reported
to viie -^vernnent of India by the Resident at Bushire,
His Grace would be glad to have the longest notice
•possible of any intention to intervene forcibly at Bahrein,

so that Ibn Saud’s mind may be prepared by the High
> fcommissioner at Baghdad.
