           that,when on tho point of starting on the rccont Bahrein Expedition, I was. in-
           fitVuotqd by telogram to ascertain carefully, but quietly, what might have been tho
           position of tho Persian Governmont in reference to tho Bahrein piracy.
              3. Shortly aftor our arrival at Bahrein, i. <?., on tho lObli of November, an
           armed craft flying Arab colors approached tho Bahrein harbour, th6n under block-
          .ado’, and kept up a fire of cannon. She was visited by Her Majesty's ships, aiid
           proved to havoion board one Hnjco Abd Alee, who stated that lie carried a letter and
           a dross of honor from tho Governor General of Pars for Mahomod bon Abdullah,
           also assurances .of nrmod aid from the Persian ports. Further, that ono Mirza
           Mchdeo Khan, who had formerly been sent to Bahrein as Eitvoy, had now ordera
           to embark for Bahroin, but had requested tho Chief of Dashtec to send a Deputy
           in lieu pf'himself. Hajeo Abd Alco odded that ho bad no authority from tli«i

              ;4*. At a subsequent interview, Hnjoa Abd Alco requested permission to
           .band over his letter to mo; but tho Senior Nava) Oflicor and I replied that wo

           OlTicor and I would rcocivo transmitting ohargo of tho lettora, and hand them
           to Mahomed bon Abdullah. Wo declined to rcooivo chargo of the. dross of lionet.
               7, It so chanced, that our next interview with Mahomod ben Abdullah wa9
          . on tho occasion of his surrendering himself, whon wo handed to him tho letters   i
