disease during 1944 than in previous years* This la apparently
due partly to on increase in the incidence of tho disease and
partly to on inareaso in the desire of those afflicted for
treatment* It is hoped that before long tho very promising
treatment by Penicillin will be available and within the
afflicted

253 major operations and 1,208 minor operations were carried
out as compared with a total for operations of 2,516 in 1943*
The Service Wards continued to be administered by the
Officer-in-Charge of the State Hospital though of course the
Royal Air Force medical officers and sisters were in charge
of the actual medical teataent and nursing of the patients.
Of the 410 European patients who wore admitted only two failed
to recover. Service out-patients are now dealt with by the
Army and Royal Air Force medical officers at special dispen
saries opened for this purpose*
