I saw the Shaikh of Bahrain yesterday
and showed him the letter dated the 15th of
February, 1950, from the Shaikh of Qatar.
As I expected, he objected to (1) the leaving
of the two watchmen in the fort and (2) the
condition made hat "none of the members of the
few tribes who migrated from Qatar in an un
go seemly manner shall infiltrate" amongst the

o after the usual anim adversions on the perfidy
r° and untrustworthiness of the Qatar people he

z asked me to write to the Shaikh of Qatar asking
him to leave the fort empty, He did not strange-
ly enough ask me to write to the Shaikh regarding
the condition about the "non-infiltration" of
Qatar tribes who had migrated from Qatar etc.
Actually he talked about this condition as if
it meant that no tribesmen actually residing
in Qatar now should mix with his people going
from Bahrain to Zubarah. What the Arabic
