Ownership of Hawar Islands.

Sir,
With reference to the express letter from the

Political Resident in the Persian Gulf dated the 29th April,

No. 423-S, relative to the question of ownership of the
Hawar Islands, I am directed by the Secretary of State to

state that, subject to the concurrence of the Government
of India, His Majesty's Government accept the view that

these islands belong to Bahrein and not to Qatar, and I
am requested that if the Government of India share this

view, the Political Resident may be instructed to convey

the decision in suitable terms to the Sheikhs of Bahrein
and Qatar. A copy of the relevant correspondence with

the Foreign Office is enclosed for information.

A copy of this letter is being sent to the

Political Resident and to the Political Agent, Bahrein.
