i1th March 1953*
Further to my letter 10Q2/i|/53 of the J|th March,
I have to report that the Advisor, on Instructions from
the Ruler, has given orders for a tented police post to
be established in the vicinity of Zuburah. I understand
that it will not be situated in the actual ruined town
itself and I have suggested that, if the Government of
Qatar insist* in putting a post in that area at all, it
should be pluccd at us discreet u distance from Zubaruh
us possible. It has however been difficult to Induce
Hancock und the Ruler.^^hnikh Ahmad in his absence -
to take no action which might be interpreted by the
Ruler of Duhruin as a brouch of the 1950 settlement,
while I am unable to tell them that anything has been
done to redress or excuse the recent violation of the
settlement by the Government of Bahrain, I have however
extracted an undertaking from Shuikh Ahmad that the
police will not approach or interfere in any way with any
followers of the Ruler of Dali rain landing at Zubaruh or
already in the vicinity; and Cochrane 1ms received specific
instructions to this effect, The A1 Than! fort will also
remain closed. In this way Shaikh Ahmad maintains that,
out of respect for our wishes, the Ruler is conforming to
the 1950 settlement.
