Dear Dolgrnvo,
I took some quite fair photographs of tho marker
on Balnah al Sughlr Island and had them forwarded to our
Embassy at Jodda stating that they were erected by the
Bahrain Government in 1936 and suggesting that Mr. Trott,
the Ambassador, might like to show them to Shaikh Yousuf
Yassin if only to disabuse him of any idea that he may
have that wo can sorlously accept his stateinont tlvi t tho
Saudi Arabian Government firmly believed when they put up
their markers that the islands belonged to them.

2. I encloso a copy of Mr. Trott1 s reply'. The Jeddah
Embassy has a long established habit of treating the Saudi
claims (usually totally unsupported by proofs or ariy kind)
to the areas of our Shaikhdoms with an almost obsequious
respect} while proofs which wo can advance oro either de
rided or returned with u requost for further details,
always nearly impossible to supply, This last letter
does not however fall into this category; it is merely
a refusal to believe tho evidence of one's own eyes.
I can reply to it by stuting that the word "Bahrain"
begins with "B" and ends with "N" and that
of these two letters on a marker on an island claimed by 'A
Bahrain would,in the minds of most persons ,associate that
marker with Bahrain. I should however be grateful if
you would let mo have any further details which would
strengthen the association of the markor with Bahrain.
Could you furthermore let me have an explanation of the
inscriptions other than "BN" upon the marker?
Yours sincerely,
C.D. Belgrave, Esq., C.B.E., .
Advisor to the Government of Bahrain, TT ,
