Another plain ware present is a thin, ’’eggshell" ware. The identifiable
vessels encountered in these soundings are shown in Figures 60p-r. Gibson (1972)
has used this ware to mark the Neo-Babylonian through Parthian periods in the area
around Kish. McCown and Haines (1967) describe bowls resembling Figure 60p as
Achaemenid at Nippur, and Debevoise (1934) discusses Parthian varieties at
Seleucia-on-Tigris.
Miscellaneous Pottery
Various bases have been grouped as miscellaneous pottery forms for discussion.
Although certain of these have glazes, they do not seem to be restricted to either
plain or glazed wares. Bases from the Achaemenid-Seleucid-Parthian levels (K^-
Ostkammer) are shown in Figures 60h-k and s-v. Two of these are more diagnostic
than the others. Base 60j is present on both plain and glazed wares. When it is
